The cafeteria staff at Battle Creek Elementary has a special relationship with the students they serve. Four of the five staff members live within two miles of the school so it is common for them to run into Battle Creek students out in the neighborhood. The staff loves when the students recognize them outside of school! The staff is also a tight knit group. They love working together and often get together for dinner often.

With a combined total of 22 years of service, this experienced staff serves approximately 250 breakfasts and 550 lunches a day. The kids love the pizza and Italian Dunkers the best, while the staff love the cheesebread for breakfast and yogurt parfait for lunch.

The funniest thing to ever happen in the Battle Creek Elementary kitchen happened on a former staff member's birthday. The kindergarten students made her a birthday crown with the number 83 on it. The kids were delighted that she wore the crown while they sang “Happy Birthday” to her. When the kids were asked if they really believed that she was 83 years old, they said yes, and that she was very fragile!
