One day a delivery man arrived at the back door of the Washington cafeteria. Mistaking him for a temporary employee sent to help out that day, Cafeteria Supervisor Kate Malone and her staff sent him to the restroom to wash his hands and get ready for work. They all had quite a laugh when the puzzled delivery man returned in a hair net and apron and explained who he was!

The cafeteria staff has a total of 45 years of service in St. Paul Schools. Kate says the staff is special because they get along well and have fun at work. They also get together outside of work and take an annual overnight trip to Treasure Island Casino during spring break.

According to Kate, Washington Middle School is special because the school has been newly remodeled and has all the newest state of the art equipment. The building is immaculate and the custodial, teaching and administration staff are all awesome. Kate says the students this year are very polite and well mannered. The cafeteria staff serves about 175 breakfasts and 525 lunches per day. The staff’s favorite meals include Cinnamon Toast and Chicken and Gravy. The students’ favorites include Cheesebread, Nachos St. Paul and Chicken Patties.
